A performance that takes you by the hand. We are given help in a life we cannot manage alone. A woman sleeps while a nurse next to her bed holds her hand. A man in the sea and a brother who has followed him up to his middle. A couple throwing plates and people in white waiting until it’s over. Brothers give each other a hand, but in the end, let go again. We are all alone and we shall never resolve this.
Jetse Batelaan: "I am looking for the comfort
of recognition: it doesn’t matter, because none of us are capable of it. I create out of nothing. My work is never self-evident and definitely not non-committal. All that appears on stage is essential for my production. I cautiously try to visualize my story in vivid, often wordless, absurd performances. And then I shamelessly lose myself in the delight of my audience."
